POSITION SUMMARY
The Fremont County Association of Governments (FCAG) is seeking a skilled and safety-oriented Maintenance Technician to join the Wind River Transportation Authority (WRTA) team. This role is critical in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our fleet and facilities. The Maintenance Technician performs inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on buses, vans, and other transit vehicles, while also supporting facility upkeep and grounds maintenance. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Vehicle Maintenance (50%)
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections on buses, vans, and fleet vehicles.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, brake, suspension, and HVAC systems.
Conduct safety and regulatory compliance inspections.
Provide roadside assistance and respond to repair calls.
Test drive and verify all completed repairs for safe operation.
Facility and Grounds Maintenance (20%)
Maintain cleanliness and organization of shop, restrooms, breakrooms, and common areas.
Perform minor building repairs such as painting, carpentry, and plumbing.
Support exterior maintenance, including snow and ice removal, landscaping, and general groundskeeping.
Inventory and Documentation (15%)
Maintain inventory of parts, tools, and supplies, and assist in procurement.
Accurately record repairs, inspections, and part usage in compliance with agency policies.
Ensure organized tool storage and safe shop conditions.
Safety and Compliance (10%)
Follow all safety protocols, including PPE use and lockout/tagout procedures.
Stay current with industry best practices and required trainings.
Report hazards and unsafe conditions promptly.
Communication and Coordination (5%)
Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatch, and staff to minimize downtime.
Coordinate repair status and safety needs with relevant stakeholders.
Support special projects, event setup, or operational tasks as needed.
Other responsibilities may be assigned to support efficient operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in vehicle maintenance or mechanical repair (fleet, transit, heavy-duty, or diesel preferred).
Proficiency with diagnostic tools, maintenance software, and repair procedures.
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Passenger endorsement, or the ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
Strong commitment to safety and preventative maintenance practices.
Preferred:
Technical or vocational training in automotive or diesel systems.
Experience in a public transit, government, or large fleet environment.
Skills in facility repair (carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, or groundskeeping).
Ability to manage shop inventory and coordinate warranty work with vendors.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing short ladders.
Regular lifting and carrying of items up to 50+ pounds.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain).
Routine exposure to noise, fumes, dust, oils, and chemicals in a shop environment.
Use of PPE including gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and high-visibility clothing.
Full-time schedule, with potential evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts during emergencies.
